Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi was a healthy scratch against the Washington Capitals, and his response to Craig Berube was cold, at best.
Max Domi has been struggling this season. Going into Friday's game against the Washington Capitals, he had just six points in 23 games.
As a result, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube decided to bench the forward and make him a healthy scratch for the first time in his Maple Leafs career.
On Saturday, Domi was back in the lineup against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and he ended up finishing the game with two assists.
It was a solid performance, and one that he needed to execute on. Had he given the Leafs another bad game, he would have been a scratch this upcoming week.
Max Domi responds to Craig Berube's scratch
While speaking to the media last night, Domi was adamant about how he didn't want to talk about his healthy scratch and how he wants to move on.
His non-answer had a bit of spice to it, and it made us feel as though he had a real problem with being put in the press box for a game.
Not going to answer anything about that. That's behind us now. So we'll focus on the win tonight. It was huge. And I'll go from there.
Craig Berube had every right to make the decision, especially when you consider how bad Domi has been playing over the past two months.
In fact, it's quite selfish for Domi to be upset. Numerous players have been scratched this season, and they were way less deserving than Domi was.
With that being said, Domi needs to tread lightly here. His play has not been good enough, and when you don't play well, scratches happen. Perhaps the coddling over the last two years has made him forget that.
