The Toronto Maple Leafs never managed to find another good linemate for Auston Matthews after Mitch Marner's departure, the Olympics and Team USA have taught us that Matt Boldy is the perfect player to compliment Matthews.

The two have played together since the tournament started and are getting better with each game.

Toronto Maple Leafs should target Matt Boldy.

Nestor Quixtan of the Heavy reported on the instant chemistry both Matthews and Boldy have demonstrated since they got to Italy. It's definitely made its impression on the Leafs staff watching back home, and could be a blockbuster deal in the future.
"Wild, on the other hand, are in win-now mode. Trading someone like Boldy would only make sense if the return was something that could put them over the top. That makes moving Boldy unlikely for the Wild. But then again, anything can happen. The Maple Leafs could entice the Wild to move the former first-round pick. The problem, however, is simple. The Leafs don’t really have anything the Wild need."-Quixtan

Unfortunately what the Wild need most is depth scoring, and if you trade Boldy you lose one of your best forwards. The only way a deal like this could work is with a lot of first round picks, or wait to see what happens with Quinn Hughes when he becomes UFA next summer. If Hughes leaves it could derail everything the Wild have worked for, and might make them want to sell off some pieces.
"Barring a spectacular implosion in Minnesota that leads to a fire sale, the idea of Boldy landing in Toronto is a pipe dream. The Wild wouldn’t move Boldy unless it was for a major piece like Matthews himself or William Nylander. And even then, jettisoning Boldy for Matthews would defeat the purpose of this thought exercise. The Wild are looking for a top-six center. The Maple Leafs, unfortunately, don’t have one to spare. If anything, the Leafs would like one of their own."-Quixtan

It will not be happening anytime soon, but a Nylander, Boldy and Matthews line could be a dream come true for Leafs fans everywhere. It's unfortunate the timing and where the two teams are at make the deal near impossible.
