Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz has reportedly been on the trading block, and a new team appears to be in need of a goalie.
Anthony Stolarz is back in the lineup, and for the next couple of weeks, the Toronto Maple Leafs will get to show him off to potential trade partners.
There has been a sense that Stolarz could be used as a trade chip at the deadline this year. Plenty of teams need goalies, and Stolarz is someone who could come in and provide some stability, as long as he's healthy.
With a lack of goalies on the market, the Leafs could theoretically get a lot in return, which would help them make the playoffs or retool in the offseason.
Well, on Tuesday, the team got a gift of sorts, as it appears as though we now know a top destination for the netminder.
Vancouver Canucks lose Thatcher Demko
It was revealed that Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko would be getting surgery. Now, he will miss the rest of the season.
The Canucks could absolutely use a goalie, especially with Kevin Lankinen and Nikita Tolopilo as their backup options. This simply won't be enough for them to do anything.
Of course, the Canucks' season is mostly over when it comes to being competitive. However, if they want to secure a goalie for the rest of the season, Stolarz would be a good fit to tandem with Lankinen.
Dennis Hildeby has proven to be a solid netminder for the Maple Leafs, so Stolarz feels both expensive and redundant right now.
Not to mention, his goals-against average of 3.63 and save percentage of .880 leave a lot to be desired these days.
It would be a tough decision for the Maple Leafs to make, but it is absolutely something they should consider going forward.
