NHL Community Grieves Passing of Former Maple Leafs Player and GM

Gerry McNamara was a long time employee of the Toronto Maple Leafs, including being a former GM, and now the team has paid tribute after his passing.
There have been many tragic passings in the hockey world in recent times, and now, the Toronto Maple Leafs have announced another, paying tribute to Gerry McNamara, former General Manager.
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Maple Leafs player, scout, and General Manager, Gerry McNamara. Gerry made an enduring impact on the organization, most notably by bringing Börje Salming to Toronto, helping pave the way for future generations of European players in the NHL. As General Manager, he continued to shape the franchise, including the selection of Wendel Clark as the first overall pick in the 1985 Entry Draft.

The former scout and Maple Leafs player went through plenty of turmoil during his time in the organization, but after coming back in recent years and spending plenty of time at alumni events, he was an incredibly beloved human being around the organization.
Tragically, it was announced on Friday that the 90-year old passed away after dealing with some health issues, and while his time in Toronto as the GM wasn't the best, his biggest move was a huge one for the franchise as he drafted Wendel Clark No. 1 overall back in 1985.
Sure, nothing was perfect, but McNamara will be remembered by friends, family, former teammates and those others he spent years with in the Maple Leafs organization, and we take the time to send our condolences to all of them and the entire Maple Leafs and NHL community.
