One-Time Toronto Maple Leafs Defenseman Hits Rock Bottom After PTO Failure
PTO season is still upon us, although with about six days before the start of the NHL season, a former Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman has gotten some bad news.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a PTO of their right now with goaltender James Reimer coming in to potentially replace Joseph Woll.
However, the Maple Leafs have yet to decide whether or not Reimer will be signed for the rest of the season or if they will release him.
Meanwhile, other former Toronto Maple Leafs players have been given some PTO opportunities. For instance, former Toronto Marlies defenseman Ben Harpur was trying out for the Florida Panthers.
Since being drafted in 2013 by the Ottawa Senators, Harpur has struggled to remain in the NHL, although it hasn't been without his best effort.
Unfortunately, Harpur will have to look elsewhere going into this upcoming season, as according to Pro Hockey Rumors, he was released by the Panthers.
Ben Harpur doesn't pass the Florida Panthers' test
During the preseason, Harpur got into some fights, but his play simply was not enough to entice the Panthers to keep him the entire season.
After all, the Panthers are fresh off back-to-back Stanley Cups, which means that they have some of the highest standards in the league.
Overall, you have to feel for journeymen players like Harpur who work tirelessly to remain in the NHL and pursue their dreams.
Hopefully, the defenseman is able to find a team for the upcoming season, whether that is in the AHL or overseas.
We wish Ben Harpur all the best.
