Patrick Kane's comments about Auston Matthews will delight Leafs fans

Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane is going for a United States scoring record, and in the midst of this, he is praising fellow American Auston Matthews.
Patrick Kane is very easily one of the greatest American hockey players of all time, and it isn't even particularly close when you think about it.
Overall, Kane is soon going to become the greatest American scorer of all-time, and that is a major accomplishment.
However, when he retires, Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews will be coming for that crown. After all, Matthews already has over 420 career goals.
As it turns out, Kane has tremendous respect for Matthews and already knows his record is in jeopardy, going forward.

In an interview with the NHL, Kane revealed that the next man up is going to be Auston Matthews, and it's not close.
That's the guy, right? That's the next guy for a lot of American kids to look up to right now. He's such a special player in a big market, and scores goals as good as anyone, pretty much, in the League. He's so gifted in that the can score in so many different ways. His shot, his hands, getting to the front of the net.
Seems like he's been very driven lately too. He's kind of leading their team right now, so definitely a guy we've got to watch out for. But it's always fun to go up against him.

Whether or not Matthews will have the longevity is something that still remains to be seen, although it's looking good.
Matthews has been having a nice resurgence in the second half of the season and appears to be in a great place professionally.
Of course, it's not going to be easy for the forward to get the record, but he could definitely do it someday.
As for Kane, it has been impressive to watch him cook over the last few years of his storied career.
