Scott Laughton Gets Real About His Struggles with the Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Scott Laughton is coming off a genuinely awful season, and now, he is addressing the fanbase about what exactly went wrong for him.
Scott Laughton was acquired by the Toronto Maple Leafs at the trade deadline last season, and unfortunately for the franchise, it wasn't the greatest trade ever.
The forward was unable to do much damage with the team, as he had just four points in the final 20 games of the season. In the playoffs, he had just two assists in 13 games.
After playing all of his professional career with the Philadelphia Flyers, it was clear to us that he was struggling to really adapt to Craig Berube and his system.
Now, he is going into a contract season, and fans are going to be expecting a lot from Laughton. Excuses are not going to be tolerated.
Scott Laughton wants to do right by the Toronto Maple Leafs
Today, at training camp, Laughton spoke to the media, and it was here that he was extremely candid about his struggles last season and what he expects of himself.
Overall, Laughton is a harsh critic of himself, and going into the upcoming season, he will only be expecting the absolute best out of himself.
I'm a pretty hard self-critic on myself. I wasn't good enough last year. That's the bottom line.
He will likely be forced to start the season on the fourth line with Steven Lorentz and perhaps Nick Robertson. That said, a spot on the roster is better than a spot off the roster.
Fans will be eager for Laughton's success, especially since he is a homegrown guy who genuinely wants to be on the team.
Only time will tell whether or not he is able to earn himself a contract with the team come next Summer.
