NHL insider Frank Seravalli recently reported on New Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton, who is receiving interest from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team in need of a right-handed puck-moving defenseman, and there are currently two of them on the trade market.
Those defensemen are Rasmus Andersson and Dougie Hamilton. It should come as a shock to absolutely no one that the Leafs are interested in both of them.
Andersson seems more obtainable right now, although there seems to be some renewed interest in Hamilton as teams are now calling the New Jersey Devils.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are jonesing for Dougie Hamilton

According to Frank Seravalli, the Toronto Maple Leafs are likely one of the teams calling the Devils right now, although they have one condition for a trade.
At $9 million per season, the Leafs would not be particularly interested in Hamilton. As a result, any kind of trade would have to include salary retention.
I'd be surprised if the Maple Leafs weren't one of the teams that had inquired at some point in time over these last couple weeks about the availability, on a reduced pay scale, of Dougie Hamilton
It's hard to say what the Leafs would have to give up in a Hamilton trade, although the defenseman's stats this season are certainly bringing down his value.

Dougie Hamilton struggles this season

Through 29 games this season, Dougie Hamilton has largely struggled as he has just eight points, four of which are goals, and four are assists.
Fans have been expecting a lot better from Hamilton, but they simply aren't getting the production they had bargained for, and it has drawn a line in the sand.
Needless to say, now is the time to trade for the Leafs, as they could theoretically get him for a bargain.
