Top Insider All But Confirms New Contract for Anthony Stolarz and the Toronto Maple Leafs

Anthony Stolarz was rock solid for the Toronto Maple Leafs last season as he finished the year with a goals-against average of 2.14 and a save percentage of .926.

Overall, he played the best hockey of his career, and considering he is only making $2.5 million per season, he has proven to be quite the bargain for the Leafs.

However, he is now in the final year of his deal, and with the price going up on netminders around the league, Stolarz is looking to cash in on his big season.

The Maple Leafs and the goalie have started to engage in contract talks, and according to Kevin Weekes, they are "leaving no stone unturned."

Little progress has been made, although a new report from Darren Dreger will be music to the ears of Maple Leafs fans everywhere.

While speaking on TSN 1050 'First Up,' this morning, Dreger revealed that Stolarz and the Leafs won't sign a new deal imminently. However, there is no reason to believe a contract won't be signed eventually.

Given what Spencer Knight just got in Chicago, one has to assume that Stolarz will be getting between $5.5 to $6 million per season.

As for the term, Stolarz is getting up there in age and would want to cash in. That tells us something in the 4-5 year range is probably likely.

With Joseph Woll on the roster and Dennis Hildeby coming up the ranks, the Maple Leafs are going to have to make some very tough decisions here.
