The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to make a big splash in 2026, especially as the free agent class is going to be significant.
Of course, the headliner very well could be Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid. He has yet to sign a new deal, and it is clear that he wants to win a Stanley Cup.
If the Oilers do not figure it out, it isn't a stretch to believe he will just leave, and seek out a massive contract elsewhere.
Toronto Maple Leafs get some hope concerning Connor McDavid
According to Frank Seravalli, there are a few frontrunners for McDavid, and they all come from massive markets. For instance, the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Chicag Blackhawks, and Los Angeles Kings make the most sense.
Unfortunately, for all of these teams, the consensus seems to be that the Oilers are going to re-sign McDavid, even if just for a couple of years.

McDavid going to the Maple Leafs is a huge pipe dream at this point, and the Leafs would be best served not getting their hopes up.
Having said that, if you are a Leafs fan, we can definitely understand getting excited about the possibility of having the best player in the world on the roster.
These next few weeks will be critical for the Oilers, as they will want McDavid locked in before the season starts.
If they can't get that done, then the Toronto Maple Leafs will be in a good spot.
