Earlier today, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced a single cut to an offensive defenseman, who was looking to make his mark in the preseason.
The preseason is a time for young players to show their stuff and potentially win themselves a job on an NHL franchise.
Of course, the Toronto Maple Leafs have plenty of young guys looking to do just that, including Easton Cowan, Ben Danford, and Luke Haymes.
One player who has shown glimpses throughout training camp is QMJHL star Owen Conrad, who plays defense for the Charlottetown Islanders.
He is an offensive defenseman, something that the Maple Leafs are in desperate need of. However, he is only 18 and is seen as mostly a project.
Owen Conrad goes back to the QMJHL
Despite winning over fans early on, Conrad got the bad, yet expected news that he would be heading back down to the Charlottetown Islanders this week.
After making a name for himself and showing something, he will get to play another season with his QMJHL team. In fact, we expect him to be there for a few more seasons.
Last season, Conrad had 26 points in 64 games. His +/- wasn't amazing, although he wasn't exactly playing for one of the best teams in the Q.
Ultimately, we are excited to see where Conrad is able to go from here. He has shown himself to be a solid player, and he has all the potential in the world.
Only time will tell whether or not Conrad has what it takes to make the NHL someday.
What we do know for sure is that fans will be looking towards Conrad for years to come.
