Throughout the last few years, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been completely hosed by some NHL rules, but the new CBA is finally giving the team a chance.

Over the last few seasons, teams like the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, and Las Vegas Golden Knights have been able to circumvent the salary cap and win Stanley Cups.
For years, there has been no playoff salary cap. This means teams can put a player on LTIR to free up cap space, and then add players to hit the limit. Once the injured player returns for the playoffs, their team benefits, as the salary cap no longer applies.
Overall, this has been a major problem for the league, and the Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of the biggest victims given their proximity to the Panthers and the Lightning.
The new NHL CBA makes it clear that going forward, there will be a playoff salary cap. However, the CBA only comes into effect in September of 2026. Despite this, the Leafs just got a gift from the league.

New NHL rules benefit the Toronto Maple Leafs

According to Frank Seravalli, the NHL will be progressively adding some of the CBA's new rules this season, including the playoff salary cap.
That means teams won't be able to keep guys on LTIR just to load up their rosters. The days of prolonged injuries are officially over.
Meanwhile, other rules taking effect immediately are the dress code, as well as players now being allowed to take sponsorships from alcohol companies.
For some of the biggest names in the league, this is going to be a huge opportunity to make more money and connect with a lot more fans.
While some may disagree with these new rules changes, they have been made official, and there is no going back now, as the CBA has been signed.
Regardless, this is going to be a fascinating couple of months as the NHL is set to begin what should be a fantastic season.
