With the Toronto Maple Leafs in need of some defensive talent on the roster, it would appear as though New Jersey Devils star Dougie Hamilton is becoming an option.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are in need of some real help on the defensive end right now, especially with Chris Tanev's season currently in limbo.
If you have been paying attention, you know that Rasmus Andersson is no longer a viable option for the Leafs, which certainly hurts them.
However, one name that continues to circulate is none other than Dougie Hamilton, who would be the perfect fit for the Leafs, considering what he brings.
There have been a mix of reports when it comes to Hamilton. Some say the New Jersey Devils don't want to retain salary, which is the only way the Leafs could get him.
Frank Seravalli on Dougie Hamilton to Toronto
However, according to Frank Seravalli, any doom and gloom surrounding the Leafs and Hamilton should be put to the side.
In his mind, Hamilton wouldn't cost a ton of assets, which benefits the Maple Leafs in a big way, even if they have to play gymnastics with the salary cap.
Maybe someone like Dougie Hamilton does make a lot of sense, you'd still have to do some cap surgery; you'd give your team a boost...while also not really spending assets that you don't have to spend
Whether or not Brad Treliving looks to make any of this happen is something that very much remains to be seen.
It's hard to say what the Leafs will do going forward, especially when there is no guarantee that they will even make the playoffs.
Ultimately, big decisions have to be made, and the fans are eager to see what happens.
