Artur Akhtyamov was starting for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday against the Ottawa Senators, but it did not work out as a blunder went viral.
Yesterday was a difficult day for the Toronto Maple Leafs' rookie squad as they lost by a score of 4-3 to the Ottawa Senators.
Overall, it was a good day for players like Luke Haymes and Jacob Quillan, but the likes of Easton Cowan and even Ben Danford struggled at times.
Meanwhile, goaltender Artur Akhtyamov became an internet meme after a truly embarrassing moment that led to the Senators' game-winning goal.
Carter Yakemchuk makes quick work of Artur Akhtyamov
In the video down below, you can see Carter Yakemchuk of the Senators completely dangle Akhtyamov out of his jock strap in humiliating fashion.
The Leafs goaltender was way out of his net, and was flopping around like a fish out of water, making it easy for Yakemchuk to put the puck in the back of the net.
Overall, it was a pretty bad look for the Maple Leafs netminder, especially as he looks to establish himself as a potential candidate for an NHL job.
If you are Craig Berube and Brad Treliving right now, you are probably happy to have Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll.
Of course, Akhtyamov can still come back from this. His career is by no means over. But at the same time, the Leafs need better goaltending than whatever this was.
Soon, the Leafs will be taking on the Canadiens in another rookie game, and we look forward to seeing how that ends up playing out.
As for Akhtyamov, we are eager to see how he can bounce back from this moment.
