The Toronto Maple Leafs haven't had the season they were hoping for so far, and once the Olympics conclude they will aim to sell off a few players before the NHL Trade Deadline comes into effect, the three big names that need to go are Calle Jarnkrok, Brandon Carlo and Max Domi.

It has been made known to the public that the Maple Leafs are going to be sellers at this deadline, rather than bulking up for the playoffs.

Toronto Maple Leafs have some big pieces to move in a short amount of time.

Krishna Bhagnathsingh of Editor in Leaf reported on the three candidates that need to get dealt in the next few weeks. The Leafs are going to experience a brief retool, to support their core for next season, meaning they need trade off some of their more valuable players to get decent returns.
"Jarnkrok, in his first year with the Leafs, was not a bad bottom-six option. However, his play has rapidly declined. The 34-year-old native of Sweden has recorded only seven points (six goals, one assist) so far this season in only 37 games played. He hasn't recorded a point since Jan. 21, which was against the Detroit Red Wings, where he recorded an assist. What once looked like a decent option on a third or fourth line has not worked out at all."-Bhagnathsingh

Max Domi has performed well this season with 31 points in 55 games, and needs to be traded simply for a decent return. A couple draft picks, or a blue chip prospect could be a realistic return for him, and the Leafs do not have any use for him, if they aren't going to make a run at the playoffs. Then there is Carlo, who has been a big disappointment since joining the Leafs.
"So far in his stint with the Leafs, he has only recorded eight points, all of them assists, in 54 games played. Despite not being much of a point-getter, he has defensive lapses in his game and has missed a bit of time this year due to injury. Carlo's size and the fact that he's a right-handed defenceman could draw some interest from teams looking for those traits, and the possibility to resurrect what he can provide on the ice."-Bhagnathsingh

The Leafs will have a lot of work to do, with very little time to work with. But it is necessary if they are to gear up for the years to come. Deadline deals will tend to yield better returns because contending teams are more desperate and will pay higher to get the players they want. The Leafs will have to capitalize on that.
