Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving wants to make a splash at the NHL trade deadline, and Elliotte Friedman has some interesting intel.
Brad Treliving has one of the hardest jobs in the NHL, as he is in charge of a team with massive expectations, with a fanbase that holds people accountable.
Going into this year's NHL trade deadline, Treliving is seen as a seller. He is going to be looking to subtract rather than add.
It is what makes the most sense for the Maple Leafs, especially when you consider how the Maple Leafs are six points out of a playoff spot.
There are a few players that the Leafs are thinking about moving on from, one of which just so happens to be Bobby McMann. As it turns out, there are others.
Brad Treliving is making difficult decisions
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Leafs are very keen on the idea of trading Scott Laughton, who has expressed interest in staying in Toronto.
Based on what Friedman is saying, Treliving doesn't seem enthusiastic about trading anyone other than Laughton and McMann.
I think they're gonna sell, I think they're gonna talk about Bobby McMann; about Scott Laughton for sure; I don't know how much deeper than that it's going to get
McMann is someone who could get the Leafs at least a first-round pick in return. Meanwhile, Scott Laughton is also someone who is well-liked around the league.
It is going to be interesting to see what happens next during the Olympics, as Treliving will be waiting for his players to return.
The tournament has been a lot of fun, and for now, that is what the whole hockey world cares about.
