The Toronto Maple Leafs are about to embark on a West Coast road trip, and this has forced them to make a few moves that could determine the outcome of the season.
At this point in the NHL season, the Toronto Maple Leafs are in trouble, and something needs to change for the Leafs to make the playoffs.
Their lineup has been uninspired for quite some time, and the fans are starting to get incredibly frustrated with what they are seeing.
There are only four games left between now and the Olympic break, and it has become clear that some changes need to be made.
In fact, the team recently revealed that Marshall Rifai would be called up to the Toronto Maple Leafs from the Marlies.
Thrun and Mermis go back to the Marlies
Meanwhile, this evening, the Leafs have revealed a pair of moves that will complement what just occurred with Rifai, although in the opposite direction.
Henry Thrun and Dakota Mermis are going down to the Marlies. Of course, Mermis ended up clearing waivers earlier today.
These moves are small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, although it makes way for Marshall Rifai to finally show what he can do.
The Leafs ought to give him an opportunity to play this weekend. If he can give the team a boost, maybe it's time to keep him in the lineup.
Of course, it is a risk, but the Leafs have no choice but to do something bold that is going to show people that they mean business.
When you're eight points out of the postseason, what else could possible go wrong?
