The Toronto Maple Leafs are dealing with a ton of injuries to their defenseman, and with the Pittsburgh Penguins putting a d-man on Waivers, the Leafs have a choice.
If you have been paying attention to the news cycle, you would know that the Maple Leafs have a ton of injured defenseman right now.
Chris Tanev and Brandon Carlo are out of the lineup with long-term injuries, while Oliver Ekman-Larsson could end up missing time as well.
The Leafs could use some extra bodies, especially on the right side of the ice. They have an abundance of left-handed shots, and they need someone right-handed.
Thankfully, the Pittsburgh Penguins just put a right-handed defenseman on waivers, and he would be perfect for the Leafs as a rental.
The Toronto Maple Leafs could use Matt Dumba
That defenseman would just so happen to be Matt Dumba, who was the seventh overall pick of the Minnesota Wild back in 2012.
He is making $3.75 million per season, and unfortunately, he had run his course in Pittsburgh, to the point where they felt like waivers were the only option.
However, Dumba is still a decent enough defenseman who could come in and get some minutes over someone like Philippe Myers.
Dumba has played 11 games this season and has only managed a total of three points. Injuries have plagued his career, but he still has gas in the tank.
With that being said, Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has a lot to think about right now, and it will be interesting to see what the Leafs do.
The Leafs have until tomorrow at 2 PM to make their decision. Only time will tell if Dumba is a Leaf by Saturday afternoon.
