Toronto Maple Leafs Sign One of Their Most Polarizing Former Goalies to a PTO
With Joseph Woll currently dealing with a leave of absence, the Toronto Maple Leafs have decided to sign a former goalie to a PTO.
Just moments ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs revealed that they would be signing James Reimer to a Professional Tryout, otherwise known as a PTO.
This move comes in the midst of Joseph Woll's current leave of absence, which will be for an indefinite period of time.
Maple Leafs fans should be quite familiar with James Reimer as he played for the team between 2010 and 2016. During this time, he was quite polarizing.
Although he certainly had some good moments, he also had some bad ones. Game 7 against the Boston Bruins in 2013 comes to mind.
Over the past decade, Reimer has bounced around the NHL, and it has been tough for him to really get any momentum going.
This offseason, it was made clear that Reimer would not have a contract for the upcoming season, and many wondered if this was the end of the road for him.
Toronto Maple Leafs give James Reimer an opportunity
Overall, James Reimer is looking to fill the backup role, as the team clearly isn't confident with Dennis Hildeby between the pipes.
Anthony Stolarz will be the starter to begin the season, and his backup will either be the inexperienced Hildeby or the veteran Reimer.
With this signing, one has to wonder how long Woll is going to be out for. The Leafs would not make this move, if they thought Woll would be back soon.
Regardless, we are wishing Reimer luck as he attempts to make the team.
