MLSE CEO Keith Pelley is getting a lot of flak right now, and it all stems from his decision to axe two key members of the Toronto Maple Leafs staff.
In case you haven't noticed, the Toronto Maple Leafs have dealt with a plethora of injuries this season, and it hasn't gotten any better.
Overall, the Maple Leafs look awful with these injuries, and fans have been trying to figure out why everything has been so dire this year.
According to Jonas Siegel of The Athletic, it appears as though the Maple Leafs made a huge mistake that has led to these injuries.
Leafs get rid of performance department
In his new report, it was revealed that MLSE CEO Keith Pelley decided to trim down on the staff, which led to two key firings.
A sports scientist was part of those let go, while the head of the performance department also go the axe.
After firing Shanahan, the Leafs axed the head of their performance department and a sports scientist. They knew the team was old. They knew this was the first condensed Olympic schedule in 12 years. Now look at them.
Elsewhere in the report, it was said that the Leafs have gone backwards in terms of their staff, and the organisation is regressing.
“It’s gone back to being a traditional hockey club now,” Bettle said in a recent interview. “It’s back to how it was before I arrived. It’s like it never happened. It’s absolutely why they have more injuries.”
This is a very damning report, and one that is going to leave a lot of fans upset and worried about the future.
Only time will tell whether or not Pelley reinstates these positions or keeps them away from the franchise altogether.
