William Nylander Calls Out the Media for Mitch Marner Narratives

Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander was recently asked about the departure of Mitch Marner, and it led to an answer that calls out the media directly.
William Nylander has been an ambassador for the Toronto Maple Leafs as of late, as the forward has been spending time in Italy for the European Media Tour.
Overall, this has been a fun time for Nylander, who has been able to connect with international fans, who absolutely adore him and the Leafs.
Furthermore, he has been able to answer questions about the Leafs, and the offseason they have had. This includes questions about Mitch Marner.
William Nylander speaks truth about Mitch Marner
Recently, Nylander was asked about whether or not Marner had made up his mind about leaving Toronto in the middle of the season.
This led to a very serious answer from Nylander, who claimed that the media was making up narratives about the forward.
Not sure where that stuff comes from, but I don't think he was ever thinking of leaving ahead of time. I actually asked him during the season and he said he was concentrating on Toronto. I didn't want to press him on that and let him be because it was obviously on his mind, but his play was focused on helping us. Then I asked him after the season and he wasn't sure. It's tough seeing him go but I'm so happy for him and his family. He got to pick where he went so, in that aspect, I'm happy for him. We're going to miss him a lot but that's just the business of the sport. That's the way it is. So we've got to regroup as a team and figure out a way to keep winning games.
Ultimately, it is honorable for Nylander to defend Marner in this way, even if it isn't necessary.
At the end of the day, Marner no longer plays for the team, which means Nylander is no longer obligated to say anything nice.
Having said that, the Maple Leafs forward is a very solid guy, as well as an amazingly talented player.
Going forward, it is going to be interesting to see just how well the Leafs can play without Marner on the team.
