William Nylander & Mitch Marner Demoted as Craig Berube Makes Drastic Line Changes
Toronto Maple Leafs forwards William Nylander and Mitch Marner have been hit with some demotions thanks to the new lines that Craig Berube is implementing.
Mitch Marner has been playing on the first line with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies for the vast majority of the season and it has worked out quite nicely for the team.
Meanwhile, William Nylander has played with John Tavares as well as a carousel of different second line left-wingers.
Now, however, both players are being demoted down a line as head coach Craig Berube tries to drum up some chemistry through various line changes.
Craig Berube makes big changes to the Toronto Maple Leafs
Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs play the Ottawa Senators and it is an important game that needs to be won.
With that in mind, Berube has chosen to promote Max Domi to the top line where he will play with Matthews and Knies.
Meanwhile, Marner is now on the second line with Bobby McMann and John Tavares.
Lastly, Nylander is now on the third line with Scott Laughton and Calle Jarnkrok which may or may not be the most bizarre line here.
Knies - Matthews - Domi
McMann - Tavares - Marner
Nylander - Laughton - Järnkrok
Lorentz - Holmberg - Robertson
McMann - Tavares - Marner
Nylander - Laughton - Järnkrok
Lorentz - Holmberg - Robertson
As for the fourth line, the Leafs are going with Steven Lorentz, Pontus Holmberg, and Nick Robertson.
Ultimately, these lines are going to be a very interesting experiment but do not be surprised if they do not work whatsoever.
It is clear that Berube is taking a shot in the dark, and the fans are praying that this actually pays off unlike some other risks the team has taken as of late.
Either way, a win against the Ottawa Senators tonight will go a long way to ease the fears and concerns of Leafs fans around the world.
