The Toronto Maple Leafs fired Marc Savard on Monday, and after a win against the Pittsburgh Penguins, William Nylander explained how he feels about the situation.

On Monday, the Toronto Maple Leafs made the difficult decision to fire assistant coach Marc Savard. His handling of the team's power play was just abysmal, and at the end of the day, something needed to be done.
Tuesday, the Leafs played the Pittsburgh Penguins in their first game since Savard's firing. In the end, the Maple Leafs had one of their best offensive games of the season, scoring six goals in a 6-3 win.
Overall, it was a huge night for William Nylander, and after the game, he was asked about the Savard firing and how he felt about all of it.

William Nylander speaks on Marc Savard's firing

This led to a blunt answer from Nylander, who noted that while Savard was a good guy, the team was playing poorly, and someone had to go.
He was a great guy and sad to see him go. But, I mean, we've been struggling. So, I guess that's the first step to make a change for the team.
There has been all sorts of chatter about how Nylander has been playing like a guy who wants his coach fired. After all, he hadn't scored a goal since November 26th.
Now that Berube's job is safe, the man has no choice but to go out every single night and put his best foot forward. It's the only way this team can win games.

Nylander bounces back against Pittsburgh

Thankfully, for the Leafs, Nylander did just that on Tuesday as he ended up scoring two goals, all while adding another two assists. It was pure domination, and something that Leafs fans can hang their hats on.
The Maple Leafs have a break for Christmas, but will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday against the Ottawa Senators and the Detroit Red Wings, respectively.
If they can come away with wins in those games, it would go a long way in this team's fight to get back into a playoff spot.
