Earlier this season, with the Vancouver Canucks once again in free fall, they decided to bid the bullet and finally initiate a rebuild. The new management made a few big trades at the time, but none bigger than their captain, Bo Horvat.
Horvat was on a torrid pace with the Canucks this season, scoring 31 goals before he was traded. The Islanders were looking to acquire goal-scoring talent, and when they finally got Horvat, they extended him to an 8 year, $8M a year contract. Now, for the first time in his career, Horvat is making a playoff push and was asked in a post game interview to compare the experience to Vancouver.
When asked about the fan support in Nee York during a post game interview, Horvat said ‘It's a lot better than Vancouver, I'll tell you that much for free.'
It's a charged comment we rarely see from hockey players, especially from a former captain speaking about his former fanbase. Perhaps with the end of the season around the corner and with the emotion of pushing for the playoffs, Horvat's guard was down when answering the question.
