On December 5th, 2021 both Jim Benning and Travis Green were terminated by the Vancouver Canucks. After a disappointing start the Canucks found themselves in a desperate need for change and that fell on the coaching staff and management. With a year remaining on his contract Green wasn't able to jump back into an NHL job right away.

After nearly 17 months away from the game however, Green has finally found his way back to the NHL. Over the last two weeks Green met with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames and New Jersey Devils about their vacant assistant coaching jobs.

Today Green has made the decision to join the New Jersey Devils.

There is word Travis Green will join New Jersey's staff in the position vacated by Andrew Brunette. Green had several options — believed to include Calgary and Toronto, and chose the Devils.

Green will replace Andrew Brunette who was hired by the Nashville Predators earlier this summer. This will give Green an opportunity to work his way back to the NHL after a disappointing ending to his NHL career.
