The Vegas Golden Knights lost Mark Stone early in Game 3, and now, there are genuine worries that he could miss time in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
In dramatic circumstances, the Vegas Golden Knights came away victorious in Game 3 against the Edmonton Oilers, as their series is now 2-1 in favour of Edmonton, with the home team having a chance to go up 3-1 in Game 4.
Unfortunately for Vegas, captain Mark Stone may not be available for that one, as he went down after a brutal collision in Game 3, and he didn't return to the game despite how important it was to the Golden Knights.
Now, Head Coach Bruce Cassidy has opened up on the situation, revealing that the team don't know much about his status at this point in time, and that they will officially reveal his status ahead of Game 4 on Monday.
«We'll see tomorrow how he's feeling. Obviously he didn't return, but it doesn't preclude him from playing the next game, we'll know more tomorrow.»
Reilly Smith, the hero of Game 3 with a game winner also addressed losing Stone, revealing that while you can't replace him, the team wanted to step up in his absence to bring home the win in the must-win Game 3.
«You can't replace a guy like Mark Stone, so the best you can do, by committee, is try to chip in and make up for not having him on the ice. He's a great player and he's also a great leader in the locker room, so everyone just has to do a little bit more and I think that was our mindset for the rest of the game and we'll see what happens for the rest of the series.»
The hope is that Stone can gut it out for the rest of the series, and given how tough it's been so far, they'll need him on the ice if they are to overcome a 2-0 series deficit against the Oilers.
