In a post on X on Monday, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared that the Washington Capitals have agreed to terms on a seven-year, $38.5 million deal ($5.5 million AAV) with free agent defenceman Matt Roy.
Roy, 29, was a seventh-round pick of the Los Angeles Kings in 2015 and has spent parts of the last six seasons with them in the National Hockey League, quickly earning the trust of his coaches and working his way up to a top-four role.
In 81 games this past season, the Detroit native put up 25 points (five goals, 20 assists), 42 penalty minutes and was a plus-21. He went on to add two assists in five Stanley Cup Playoff games as the Kings were eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers.
