2022 first round pick suffers serious injury, forced to be stretchered off the ice

Winnipeg Jets prospect Rutger McGroarty was taken 14th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. McGroarty currently plays for the University of Michigan Wolverines in the Big 10. On Friday night, McGroarty's Wolverines we're taking on the University of Pennsylvania Quackers.

During the third period of the game, Quackers' forward Reese Laubach checked McGroarty hard into the boards forcing the Jets prospect to go flying hitting his tailbone and lower back off the ice and boards.

A stretcher was needed as Wolverines athletic trainer Brian Brewster and defenceman Jacob Truscott wheeled McGroarty out the zamboni gate entrance at the end of the rink.

Head Coach Brandon Narauto provided an update on McGroarty after the game, saying he was taken he emergency room, but the full extent of his injury remains unknown.

The 19 year old McGroarty has scored 6 goals and 18 points in 13 games this season.

Laubach is a seventh round pick of the San Jose Sharks in the 2022 NHL Draft. In 11 games he has scored 2 goals and 4 points.
