Brendan Gallagher shares gruesome details of injury he suffered this season
The Montreal Canadiens' season came to an end last night after losing to their 'Original Six' rivals, the Boston Bruins. For the second consecutive season, the Canadiens will have a high pick in the entry draft, as they currently hold the fifth-best odds to select first overall.
On Friday, the Canadiens held their season-ending media availability and veteran forward Brendan Gallagher revealed the extent of the injury he suffered back in early November.
Gallagher said that he suffered a broken ankle when blocking a shot, but continued to play through it for a month before breaking it again. He added that going forward he needs to be smarter and shouldn't have continued to play.
"In my case, I gotta be honest, I block a shot and I go in there and am I being totally honest? Probably not." � Brendan Gallagher, who says medical staff can only go on info they get. "We'll never put the blame on them. As players, we've just gotta do what we can do"
The Edmonton native then missed nearly two-and-a-half months following Montreal's game on January 3rd against Nashville, returning on March 21st against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Gallagher finished the season with 14 points (eight goals, six assists), 45 penalty minutes and was a minus-five in 37 games. He has four years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $6.5 million.
