The Stanley Cup Playoffs are less than 6 weeks away. With so many teams already locked into their playoff spots teams have begun to manage the loads of their players to attempt to make it to the playoffs as healthy as possible. Unfortunately for the Carolina Hurricanes that won't be the case.

Yesterday news leaked that Andrei Svechnikov suffered a significant injury during the team's recent 4-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. The Hurricanes were hopeful that Svechnikov would play and listed the forward as a "game time decision" for their most recent game.

Then the news for the Hurricanes began to sound slightly more ominous. Elliotte Friedman reported yesterday that Svech's injury was actually to his ACL, but the Canes were seeking a second opinion on the matter.

Today however, Chris Johnston confirmed this is the worst case scenario for the Canes.

Andrei Svechnikov will have season-ending knee surgery on Thursday. Huge loss for the #hurricanes.

Svechnikov, 22, has 23 goals and 55 points in 64 games this season, playing a key role in one of the best offences in the league.

This news is the worst case scenario for the Hurricanes, especially now that the Trade Deadline has come and gone. Earlier this year the Canes also lost Max Pacioretty to season ending surgery as well. This blow leaves the Hurricanes in a much more difficult spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
