3 teams fully commit to tanking for Connor Bedard, now telling teams they'll do this to help themselves get worse
If you take a looks at the Western Conference standings in the NHL, you notice that the Chicago Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes, and the Anaheim Ducks have been at the bottom of the standings for most of the season. These three franchises are in rebuild mode and they look to be active sellers in this year's trade deadline.
Not only do these clubs want future assets, all three of these teams want the opportunity to land future superstar Connor Bedard in this year's entry draft.
The three franchise's won't just stop at trading roster players either. Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli reports that all three of these teams will take bad contracts for future assets. They all have cap room to spare, particularly the Coyotes who have eighteen million dollars in cap space. It makes sense these teams would make this known to the rest of the league. Clearly none of these franchises are close to post season contention and it doesn't appear they will be for a while.
The ability to offer cap space to other franchises who have over extended themselves has to be an attractive idea to some organizations.
It will be interesting to see who can take advantage of this offer and what it would cost in order to so. As the trade deadline approaches in early March, look for these three teams to be active in the trade market.
