Alex Ovechkin absolutely runs over Jan Rutta with a giant body check
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals definitely don't like one another. After years of playoff match ups against each other the teams have developed a legitimate hatred. When the two teams meet there is always something that catches the fan's eyes.
Tonight's meeting between the two teams is no different. Alex Ovechkin might just be the greatest goal scorer of all-time, but he's also one of the best hitters as well. During the second period Ovechkin saw an opportunity as defenseman Jan Rutta carried the puck around the back of the net.
Ovechkin saw his lane and followed through with a giant hit.
Rutta quickly got up and went after Ovechkin for the hit delivering a cross check to the star player. Rutta received 2-minutes for cross checking sending the Capitals to the powerplay. Luckily for Rutta, not only did the Penguins kill the penalty, but they scored a short handed goal as well.
