Borje Salming's former teammate provides insight on the Legend's passing
Today Toronto Maple Leaf's Legend, Borje Salming passed away at the age of 71. Salming had a very well documented battle with ALS, which had left him unable to speak. Salming's form of the disease was noted to be very aggressive and was progressing quickly.
Two weeks ago Salming made the trip to Toronto for an opportunity to be celebrated by fans, friends and former teammates. One of those teammates was Mark Kirton. Kirton and Salming were not only former teammates, but they were both battling ALS with one and other.
After the passing of Salming, Kirton took to Twitter to share the following information about his friends passing.
Sad, sad day. So glad he was able to attend tributes here & Sweden & you know what, he died a good death. Meaning his loving family was around him & he didn't allow the ALS monster to rip him apart piece by piece over time. King outsmarted the f**** disease. Deep down know that he knew what kind of a burden this would become on his family. You think he was a smart hockey player but he was even a smarter man! It's time to rest. God bless
Your friends,
Kirts and Lisa
