It looks like the Edmonton Oilers are nearing a contracted extension with interim head coach Jay Woodcroft, effectively removing the interim tag beside his name.
According to Kevin Weekes of TSN, ESPN and the NHL Network a deal is imminent but details are still very much fluid with how the contract will shake out.
Woodcroft took over from Dave Tippet who was relieved of his duties back in February at a time the oilers had won just 7 of their last 23 games. In 38 games behind the Oiler bench, Woodcroft led the Oil to a 26-9-3 record to finish the season second in the pacific division. He also led the Oil to the Western Conference final. Its a small sample size for Woodcroft, but the stats speak for themselves.
