The Philadelphia Flyers have had a busy off-season thus far, first hiring John Tortorella as their 23rd coach in franchise history earlier this week, General Manager Chuck Fletcher promised the Flyers would swing for the fences in order to make the team a contender as soon as possible, so what's next for the organization? Moving on from aging power forward James Van Riemsdyk.

According to NHL Rumours Daily, Chuck Fletcher is shopping relentlessly trying to find a spot for his contract. word on the street is he's talked with a few teams on the west coast, but nothing has materialized as of yet.

JVR is an interesting case because he at 33, has slowly started to decline production-wise since returning to Philly on a 5-year 35 million dollar contract on July 1st, 2018. The issue isn't that JVR cant add value to a team, he still can, the issue would be at a 7 million dollar cap hit next season, who's gonna bite on a guy that only put up 38 points last year?

Philly could decide the best course of action is to retain some salary, but that doesn't really fit in with their " we're going big fish hunting so Torts will like being here" motto they seem to be going with this off-season.

I hope JVR lands on his feet and continues to play for a few more years, on that contract though, for me, he's likely a buyout candidate more then a trade chip unfortunately.
