Cal Foote injured after huge body check to the head
Nicholas Aube-Kubel was picked up off waivers by the Washington Capitals from the Toronto Maple Leafs last week. Since arriving in Washington Aube-Kubel has done his very best to make an impact physically. That's exactly what he did tonight.
Unfortunately that physical style came with a price. During the second period after Cal Foote had passed the puck, Aube-Kubel delivered a massive hit to the defender. The hits principal point of contact was the side of the head.
The hit left Foote bloodied and he was forced to leave the game. The referees reviewed the hit and eventually determined it was worthy of a major. The officials ejected Aube-Kubel and while they discussed Pat Maroon and Garnet Hathaway dropped the gloves.
