The Minnesota Wild were able to extend Marc-Andre Fleury before the start of free agency. This put both Fleury and Cam Talbot under contract for next season. On the draft floor Cam Talbot's agent, George Bazos had a conversation with Bill Guerin about his clients future.
After the conversation Bazos had the following to say:
We both stated our positions. Billy has a lot to think about.
I don't have shit to do. Cam Talbot's under contract.
After the draft Talbot's agent tried to spin the situation and leak that Talbot really just wanted an extension and a raise, not to be traded like he'd implied. Ultimately Guerin decided he didn't want Talbot as a member of the Wild and he traded him to the Ottawa Senators.
On his way out of Minnesota, Talbot decided to take the route of blaming the media rather than taking accountability for his agent.
I didn't really want to be moved. It played out in the media that maybe I had some ill will toward the organization or something like that. It wasn't like that at all.
While Talbot can claim there was no ill will it was clear Talbot's agent wanted everyone to believe there was, especially in the hot goalie market we saw at this year's draft.
