Towards the end of the first period in last night's game between the Calgary Flames and Las Vegas Golden Knights, Vegas' Keegan Kolesar goes to forecheck in the Calgary zone, and delivered a clear check to the head to Calgary's Chris Tanev.
Kolesar's shoulder and arm make awkward and direct contact to Tanev's head, which left him looking woozy on the ice for a few moments before skating off assisted by his teammates. Kolesar was assessed a major penalty on the play, later reduced to just a minor penalty.
It'll be truly interesting to see if the league's Department of Player Safety decides any supplemental discipline to be necessary here. Truly interesting in the sense that the NHL's DoPS is actually just random, and the lack of consistency means making sense of the suspensions or assessed penalties is impossible.
Chris Tanev returned for the 2nd period after a trip to the quiet room. Tanev was able to pass NHL Concussion protocol testing.
Vegas went on the dominate the game, chasing Jakob Markstrom from the Flames net, and cursing to a 6-1 victory, much needed in their fight to stay in the playoff picture.
