Colorado Avalanche star winger suffers major injury setback on surgically repaired ankle

The Colorado Avalanche wanted to run it back and win another Stanley Cup, yet even with all their depth, this season they may be fringe playoff contenders at best.

To make matters worse, Valeri Nichushkin who was a vital part of the Stanley Cup-winning team is out again.

It appears that Nichushskin has reinjured his surgically repaired ankle, and this time around, he has no timetable to return.

With Nichushkin being out long-term, the Avalanche are missing a key piece on their offense, as his absence, Tuesday, left a gaping hole in their depth, as they lost to the Arizona Coyotes 6-3. Last season the winger had a career year, putting up 25 goals and 27 assists for 52 points. If the team expects to win anything, they need to be healthy.
