Corey Perry's NHL career likely not over, expected to return this season
Yesterday afternoon, the Chicago Blackhawks announced that Corey Perry had officially cleared waivers and was going to have his contract terminated. For many, the scarce details led them to believe that Perry would likely see an end to his NHL career. The Blackhawks refusal to release details led many to believe this was the worst case scenario situation.
However, now it is clear that this was not a criminal act and there is no police investigation into the matter. This changes the situation for many teams who would have had interest in Perry. After Frank Seravalli release details of an alcohol fueled incident, it now appears teams aren't turned off the idea of adding Perry.
According to Frank Seravalli multiple teams have already reached out to Perry and his agent.
Seravalli on Real Kyper & Bourne: «I think there's actually been a couple of teams in the last 24-48 hrs that may be interested in adding a player like Corey Perry, so I think there's a lot left to be written here»
It's clear that one alcohol induced incident will likely not turn NHL teams off from a player like Perry. With his Stanley Cup pedigree and playoff style hockey, it's likely only a matter of time before he is back in the league and I would assume it will be sooner rather than later.
