The NHL made it very clear. If you criticize our referees we are going to fine you. The NHL has created an environment where referees are free from all criticism.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have taken some heat over their game against the St. Louis Blues yesterday. After already being hit with a travel fine for breaking the Collective Bargaining Agreement, it appears that there's a member of the team in hot water.
According to Chris Johnston, the National Hockey League has announced a fine for Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe, take a look.
The NHL has fined #leafs coach Sheldon Keefe $25,000 for "demeaning conduct directed at the officials" during last night's game in St. Louis.
This would be another case of the on ice officials not doing their job properly and a coach disagreeing with how they choose to officiate (or not) officiate a game properly.
Keefe is as fiery a coach as he was a player, but 4 officials missing a call and hearing it from the bench shouldn't be a fine. The NHL continues to side with their stripes instead of fixing their broken system.
If I was Keefe, I would pay this fine with a grin on from ear to ear.
