The Edmonton Oilers have continued to struggle, currently sitting in the final Wild Card Spot. But it appears reinforcements might not be far away as forward Evander Kane has officially returned to practice and his inclusion into a game appears close.

Kane had emergency surgery after suffering a gruesome skate slash to his wrist during a 3-2 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on November 8th.

Edmonton Journal's Kurt Leavins reports that Kane has been travelling with the team, and says he is less than three weeks away from a return to action. He predicts that Kane returns January 25th against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The 31 year old has five goals and 13 points in 14 games played this season after signing a four-year, $20.5 million contract with the Oilers last summer.

Kane's return will be a welcome addition to a team starving for secondary scoring. Kane is the fifth highest goal scorer on the team among forwards after Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Zach Hyman. Kailer Yamamoto is sixth with ten points.
