The National Hockey League has put a lot of teams in cap peril with the stagnant nature of the cap over the past few years, among those teams are the Edmonton Oilers.
According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the Oilers have put themselves in quite a predicament with the return of Kailer Yamamoto. Take a look:
For context on #Oilers, finagling the cap/roster this way buys them some more time. Edmonton wants Holloway playing more minutes for the time being. Holland is managing what he knew was going to be a challenging cap situation since training cano
Sending down two productive members of your team because they're waiver exempt is not what you want to do. Especially when you're trying to maintain your playoff position.
Dylan Holloway, 21, has played in 51 games for the Oilers this season, collecting 3 goals and 6 assists for a total of 9 points. Not impressive numbers by any stretch, but a character guy that would've stayed with the Oilers the full season.
Vincent Desharnais, 26, has played just 12 games, but has played really well collecting 4 points all assists and being a +9
If the oilers weren't in cap he'll, they wouldn't be forced to send down valuable members of their team.
