It's likely not the money that is scaring teams away, but the term. According to Tom Gazzola, Evander Kane and his team are looking for north of $7,000,000 on his next contract. After scoring 35 goals in 58 games through the regular season and playoffs, Kane is likely deserving of that value.
But along with that large value, Kane is also looking to attach a 5 to 7 year term to that amount. Kane is also hoping to parlay that with a potential no movement clause of no trade clause. Teams will continue to be skeptical of signing Kane long-term, especially if it includes a no movement clause which provides them no relief from his cap hit should he become a distraction.
