Fans react after the New Jersey Devils have three goals disallowed by the video review
The Toronto Maple Leafs were able to hold onto their 2-1 lead and defeat the red hot New Jersey Devils. The loss snapped a thirteen game win streak for the Devils. Toronto grabbed an early lead after scoring two first period goals. After that, New Jersey had two goals called back because of goaltender interference. One on Nathan Bastian and one on Tomas Tatar. Although the calls by the referees were correct, the fans in New Jersey and the team were upset by both calls.
Finally in the third period, while short-handed, Erik Haula scored what seemed to be New Jersey's first goal. Haula took a one timer on a pass from Jack Hughes. Goalie Matt Murray made a great save but was unable to control the rebound. Erik Haula was standing right in front of Murray looking for the loose puck. The replay shows Haula kicking the puck with his skate causing the puck to cross the goal line. After the referees reviewed the play, it was determined that it was "no goal" due to a distinct kicking motion.
The New Jersey fans erupted with frustrating and throwing garbage on the ice. It was so bad, the Maple Leafs went to the locker room for a few moments.
Fans in the arena were mad, but that didn't pale in comparison to fans online. Here are some of the best Tweets from both fan bases last night.
