The Calgary Flames have decided to cut all ties with a second round draft pick from 2022. The announcement came after Topi Ronni was given a one-year suspended sentence for assaulting a woman in Finland.

The announcement from the Flames was short and sweet.

"Effective immediately, the Calgary Flames renounce the rights to unsigned draft pick Topi Ronni."

Ronni was also dumped from his contract with Tappara Tampere of the Finnish Elite League. The centre had played 22 games this season, scoring 1 goals and 2 points.

Being 19 years old, Ronni is eligible to re-enter the NHL draft. However, it seems highly unlikely any team will be interested in his services. The Flames picked him 59th overall. Ronni can avoid jail time by sticking to all the conditions of his suspended sentence.
