Friday night saw one of the biggest trades in recent NHL history. Two 100-point plus players were swapped in a mega deal between the Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers. The Flames received Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, prospect Cole Schwindt and Florida's lottery-protected first-round selection in the 2025 draft. In exchange the Florida Panthers received Matthew Tkachuk and a conditional fourth-round draft pick.
As always there are winners and losers to every trade and sometimes it takes a year or two to see who won. But Florida Panthers fans are not taking this one well.
On the other hand, Calgary Flames fans are ecstatic at the thought of having another big name on their roster along with an upgrade on defense.
I think the attitude in Calagary just took a big swing. From losing to star players, to trading for two more. Florida on the other hand still has some salary cap work to do. We'll see how new head coach Paul Maurice receives Matthew Tkachuk in the locker room.
