The Florida Panthers shocked the hockey world when they traded Jonathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar, a prospect and a 1st round draft pick for Matthew Tkachuk. The trade was accompanied by Tkachuk signing an 8 year contract with an annual value of $9,500,000 per year.
Last season with the Calgary Flames, Tkachuk put up 104 points in 82 games, which left him 8th in league scoring. The 104 points also left Tkachuk 11 points behind Huberdeau who he was acquired for.
While Tkachuk is a great player it's clear to see the only generational players currently in the game are Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid and Cale Makar. With both Alexander Ovechkin and possibly Auston Matthews being recognized as generational scorers.
