NHL reportedly could void any contract Evander Kane signs
Evander Kane's contract issues are bound to be resolved in July, but right now there is still the debate around his free-agency status. The grievance process has been halted as Shyam Das was unavailable in the month of June to expedite the process. In addition to his absence, Kane himself was unable to attend the hearings due to the Edmonton Oilers playoff run that ended on June 6th.
The Sharks placed Kane on unconditional waivers for purposes of a contract termination on Jan. 8 after it was alleged he violated COVID-19 protocol while in the AHL. That came after he was suspended by the NHL for 21 games on Oct. 18 for reportedly submitting a fake vaccination card.
Each side has something to lose, San Jose will have to deal with the cap hit, should the arbitrator rule in favor of Kane, of which he has $23 million left from the time of termination.
If it is decided that Kane was terminated without cause, he could be returned to a locker room that has obviously rejected him.

Until Das returns to sort through the confusion or the NHLPA and Billy come to a settlement, Kane is stuck in limbo.
«Our position is it's a valid termination and he's a free agent,» Daly said. «But that doesn't mean that situation might not be reversed, in effect, by an arbitrator saying he has a valid contract and still has a valid contract.»
Until then, Evander Kane is in a stalemate worth $23 million with the league and the Sharks.
