Former NHLers son saved from potential paralysis by vigilant medical staff
Matthew Barnaby player 14 years in the NHL, playing 834 career games. Over his career he had the opportunity to play for 7 different teams. Now in retirement Barnaby gets to watch his son follow in his footsteps.
Matthew Barnaby Jr. is currently playing in the East Coast Hockey League, trying to live his professional hockey dream. Unfortunately recently Barnaby Jr. suffered a significant injury. During a game Barnaby took a knee to the head, like a true warrior he wanted to go back into the game, but a vigilant medical staff refused.
Barnaby took to Twitter to thank the team for taking care of his son.
I want to thank everyone on @OrlandoHockey medical staff. My son begged to play after taking a knee to the head. They said NO!! Turns out there was a small fracture to his C3.
Like most hockey players Barnaby Jr. is an absolute warrior and understood that an injury could mean someone would take his job. But the Orlando medical staff absolutely did the right thing and ultimately saved him from what could have been a much worse ending. There is no telling what could happen to a fractured vertebrate if he took another hit.
